To my lovely Mother and Father,
As you may or may not know, I have a desire for something that is, in your opinion, considered to be a want and not a necessity. However, my longing to own this device grows with each passing day, and I often find myself envying those who already own one. I know that we have discussed this topic many times, and still continue to hit an indecisive road block. I decided to write you a formal letter in my efforts to persuade you one way or another, and hopefully by the end you will come to see my point of view and realize that this device I am rallying for can be of major use. Yes, the item that I speak of, indeed, is an Iphone.
As much as I feel that I need an Iphone, I very much understand your side of things. First off, the iphone is a major expense. Apple has a hypnotic way of making people feel that they NEED their product, and then continue to raise the prizes to something outrageous. The device, itself, would require a small fortune and that doesn’t include the added internet payment that would be tacked on our already high phone bill each month. I completely agree that it is overpriced, and over rated. I also understand the fact that, well, I am no friend to phones. Somehow or another, every phone that is in my possession finds a way to slip out of my hands onto the ground or into the toilet. Then, of course, there are those phones that love to snap in half, or black out. I do not quite understand how these mishaps happen, all I know is that I am in sorry shape without a cell phone, but have gotten quite good at making do with the usual replacement phone while I again join the market to get the next best thing… within budget. Yes, the iphone would be my 12th phone (more of less,) and I can see your hesitation in allowing me to get such an expensive phone due to past experiences.
While the price and danger of breaking are valid points, I am here to tell you that I have solutions to both! The price is a major let down, I know, but I am here to tell you that I am willing to help! Not only do I have a job now, but remember that scholarship I got? The scholarship will allow me to save money, while my job will bring in money monthly. It’s a good job too. I, Lauren Jayne Loock, am very willing to help contribute the thirty dollars a month to help pay for internet. I honestly feel that that is not too far out of my reach, and would be happy to help if that’d help persuade you one way or another. As for the phone itself, I can still get one at upgrade price for another week or so, OR I will search diligently ‘till I find a cheaper alternative on EBAY or KSL. Heck, I’ll even start a lemonade stand if I have to!
My name is Lauren, and I have a problem: I break phones. Well, I used to break phones. I would like to note that my last phone lasted me for many months, and only broke because of natural wear and tear. It was a sad loss, but I took it in stride. With my age and maturity, I feel that I have become more responsible with my small, electronic devices! Especially if I were to get an Iphone, I would treat it with the respect and love it deserves. That would include: never letting it out of my site, never having it by a pool/shower, buying a nice cover for it, never letting Tanner Rampton get a hold of it (seeing as he broke the last one,) and altogether treating it as if it were my own flesh and blood! Besides, if I pay for it myself (see above,) I am bound to treat it better seeing as it will be my hard earned money. It’s definitely something to think about.
So as you can see, I have brought up some valid points. I have seen your side and explained my side. In closing, I’d just like to say that I feel like I am ready for this step. I am now 18 years old, and feel that a having a smartphone would help as I get ready to grow up and become the adult I’m destined to be. It will help me by constantly having a source of research by my side. An Iphone will not only allow me to call and text, but It will provide my favorite tunes… and you know how much I love music. An Iphone is, well, more than a phone as well. It is a source of entertainment for those down times in life, for example, I will be taking the bus to weber every day, and an Iphone would allow the commuting to become less of a stress and more of a joy. The main reason I want an iphone, however, is for the internal planner/calendar it has. I would be able to be reminded of everything from homework, to birthdays, to farewells! I honestly feel that this is a device that could help me if I use it right. Mom, Dad, please allow me to spread my wings and become that more responsible person. Allow me to prove to you that I’m worth more than the next free phone. Allow me to show myself that I don’t need to lean on my Daddy’s money always, and that I CAN do something for myself. I promise that if you give me this opportunity that I will grow and be the smart, responsible, well-educated daughter you’ve always hoped for. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Lauren Jayne Loock
